ZIMBABWE - HARARE - MDC which has been calling on full implementation of the GPA has stalled the latest round of talks slated for today as one of its negotiators, Mr Tendai Biti is reportedly to be out of the country.

WELSHMAN NCUBE

The talks adjourned last Thursday after negotiating parties failed to find common ground on the sticking issues which are threatening the life of the year old inclusive Government.

MDC-PF co-negotiator Professor Welshman Ncube said yesterday that they are not meeting today because of the absence of Mr Biti.
He said the negotiations would only resume after Mr Biti’s return.

“We are not meeting today because Tendai went away to Tunisia and nothing can move when one of the negotiators is not available.
“I am not aware of the purpose of his visit to Tunis but, he just confirmed to us that he will not be available for today’s round of talks,” he said.
Prof Ncube said there was no progress made so far, since the talks resumed last week.

He could not however be withdrawn into revealing the major sticking issues impeding progress although it is clear that the issue of sanctions was one of the sticking issues.

“Nothing is moving and it is useless for us to continue telling the nation that there is no progress while they are looking to us as Government to deliver,” he said.

The South African facilitation team led by President Zuma’s international relations advisor Lindiwe Zulu left the country last week after meeting the negotiating parties.

However, the team failed to bring the parties closer to an agreement and it is not clear when it will be back again. Zanu-PF has already made its position clear that it will not compromise anything until sanctions imposed on Mugabe and his Zan crooks are lifted.

Other sticking issues that have kept Zanu-PF and the MDC adrift include illegal broadcasting by pirate radio stations from Botswana and Madagascar.

The MDC is on the other hand pushing for the swearing of its treasurer Roy Bennett who is facing trumped up charges of inciting insurgency and banditry as deputy Minister of Agriculture among a host of other issues not in the GPA.
